When you are camping, one of the most important tips is to make sure your generator is properly grounded. In case of an open ground test, the RV may refuse to accept power from your generator. If this happens, you can ground your generator by using a copper wire, stake, or adapter plug. To make a grounding plug, take an eight-foot piece of copper wire and wrap it around the metal handle of the camper’s propane or electric generator.
The first step is to locate a safe location outside the campsite. Once you have identified this area, find a location where you can shovel a metal rod into the ground. If the ground is hard, you can dig a channel and cover the channel with a sheet of plastic. Once you have found a spot, lay the rod across it and connect it to a copper coil. Then, make sure the copper wire is connected to the frame of the camper’s camper.
Next, find a soft, shady spot to place a grounding rod. Ideally, the rod should be placed in a soft soil that is neither dry nor sandy. Once the grounding point is in place, you can then use a copper wire to connect the generator to the grounding point.
